whatwe

Policewives.org supports its members in the many different seasons
of their lives. One group that helps facilitate this is the Warm Fuzzies.
They encourage the members by sending e-cards, cards, and care packages
as the need and situations presents itself. Storkwatch, a pregnancy support
and mailing group, Member of the Week, and the Birthday club are extensions
of their supportive endeavors. Another special group we have is the Big
Sisters who help those new to the site by answer questions, encouragement
and navigation of the site. When a member has a particularly tough question,
Mike and Althea Olson are experienced professionals waiting to personally
respond to their questions. Finally, our paid members have access to the
policewives.org book club and have the option to host our traveling mascot,
RosieBear.

The philanthropic activities of Policewives.org extend outside of the
confines of our website. Each year, the ladies of the site get together
for several large outreach projects. Once or twice a year the site has
a blanket and stuffed animal drive called “Baby Blue.” The donated items
are then sent to a police department in need of such items. The police
departments use these items to provide comfort to the smallest and most
innocent victims of crimes, infants and young children. Also, each year
the ladies donate money to purchase a wreath to be placed at the Police
Week memorial. Funds raised above the amount needed for the wreath are
donated to the Police Week memorial fund. A new project, as of 2008, is
our “Pennies for Pups” program. The children of our members work together
to raise money to purchase a bullet proof vest for a canine officer. These
hard-working service dogs put their lives on the line too, and we think
they deserve to be protected. Our final large project of the year is our
adopt-a-family Christmas project. The ladies of the site nominate and choose
one LEO family who has a special need or hardship that might prevent them
from celebrating Christmas as they would like. We then buy gifts for and
donate needed items to them, in order to help them have a great Christmas.

Although we are especially proud of our large outreach projects, our
smaller ongoing projects are equally important. Throughout the year we
send sympathy cards to the departments of officers who are killed in the
line of duty. We also have a “Light a Candle” memorial on our site, where
anyone can come and leave a remembrance in honor of their loved ones. Another
ongoing project is the PW Sisters program, a nation-wide network of police
wives who are willing to help other police wives in their area. This help
can range to anything from providing area information to providing a place
to stay during natural disasters, depending on the needs presented and
the resources available. When requested and as we are able, policewives.org
donates items to fundraisers, silent auctions, and other benevolence projects
that benefit law enforcement officers and their families.

If you feel that any of these projects can help meet a need in your
life, or in the life of a law enforcement family that you know, please
do not hesitate to contact us. Although we can not meet every need, we
meet as many as we can with the resources that we have. All our resources
come from the generosity of our members, and we thank them for their support.
